“Pishten” is Hebrew for linen, or fine linen in the Bible.  The root word is “pash”, which means “extremity” in English, interestingly enough.  We are given examples of the many uses for this special fabric in scripture as a holy covering for those in service to Yah.

In the International Standard Version of the Bible, the clearest  description of linen and being clean is given first:  “This is the law concerning fungal contagions on clothing of wool or linen (whether woven or knitted material) or in any of the articles made of leather, for determining whether it is clean or unclean." Leviticus 13:59

It’s also noteworthy that “leprosy”, a “deadly unclean contamination” from the KJV and other translations, is described as “mildew”, in this verse.  It is less clear in the KJV: “This is the law of the plague of leprosy in a garment of woolen or linen, either in the warp, or woof, or any thing of skins, to pronounce it clean, or to pronounce it unclean.”

I never understood how or what a contaminated garment with leprosy was connected with a “warp or woof”.  However, the original language of Hebrew tells us that a “warp or woof” has nothing to do with time or dogs. It’s describing the fabric types: woven linen or knit linen.

In ancient Israel, linen was a significant textile, often associated with wealth and status due to the labor-intensive process required to produce it. The cultivation of flax and the production of linen were important economic activities. Linen garments were worn by priests during temple service, signifying holiness and separation unto God. The use of linen in religious contexts underscores its symbolic association with purity and divine service. (Biblehub.com)

Deut. 22:11 gives specifics about not mixing the fabrics: “You shall not wear a material mixed of wool and linen together.”

The angels are seen in biblical accounts as wearing white bright linen garments, with a sash or belt. As the ministers in the heavenly temple, the archangels are similar, in roles and attire, to the priests of Yah on earth; the Levites, and those called according to His purpose.  The “as above, so below” terminology applies here.

Linen has been used in history for healing and protection.  Hospitals used to use linen sheets for their healing properties.  Warriors would layer linen under their armor for its protection against weapons.  In the Bible, it is worn by holy people of Yah.

The SWP community store now has handmade, knit linen tank tops for women and men; available in three sizes as well as in custom measurements. They are soft, 100% organic linen, in stretchy knit, perfect for wearing under shirts and sweaters, so that the body can benefit from the healing properties.  Check out the link below!
